Celebrate the Lunar New Year in Pokemon Go with Bunnelby, Buneary – and, for some reason, Darumaka

Pokemon Go bids farewell to the Year of the Tiger next week by welcoming in the Year of the Rabbit with the annual Lunar New Year Festival.

Since it’s the Year of the Rabbit, Bunnelby and Buneary will appear more frequently in the wild, and you can look forward to other event-oriented Pokémon in the wild, in raids, and from Eggs.

Pokemon Go Season 9: Mythical Wishes is here!

During the event, you will have an increased chance of encountering Shiny Darumaka, an opportunity to get Lucky Pokemon in stores, and a high chance of becoming Lucky Friends.

The in-game event will take place from January 19 to January 23 from 10:00 to 20:00 local time, and the following Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild: Ponyta, Magmar, Magikarp, Slugma, Numel, Combee, Buneary, Fennekin and Bunnelby. All can be shiny except Fennekin.

You might even meet Flareon and Darumaka.

Event bonuses consist of 2× Stardust from opening gifts, an additional special trade is available for a maximum of two per day, and you can choose from several bonuses as rewards for timed research and congratulations.

Lucky Wishes features branching timed research that fulfills your desire for bonuses revolving around hatching eggs, duration of daily adventure incense, or collecting stardust. The path you choose will determine what bonuses and tasks you have for the event.

Whichever path you choose, completing the research will reward you with a Lucky Egg and other items. You also have a chance to encounter the following Pokemon: Magikarp, Azumarill, Combusken, Darumaka, Galarian Darumaka, and Bunnelby.

During the event, the following Pokémon will hatch from 7km Eggs: Chingling, Riolu, Darumaka, Galarian Darumaka, and Scraggy. Riolu, Darumaka, and Galarian Darumaka can also be shiny.

If you like raiding, there are one-star raids with Hisuian Voltorb, Shinx, Darumaka, and Galarian Darumaka during this time. In three-star raids, you’ll fight Flareon, Shuckle, Blaziken, Druddigon, and Diggersby.

The five star raid boss will be Regice (again? Where’s Rayquaza?) and Lopunny will be the mega raid boss – both can be shiny too.

After completing the field research task, the following Pokémon will appear: Charmander, Paras, Cyndaquil, Torchic, Chimchar, Combee, Buneary, Tepig, Darumaka, Galarian Darumaka, Fennekin, Bunnelby, and Litten.

As usual, you can also expect new stickers to apply to postcards, and the new avatar purchasable item will be a Red Lantern backpack. Celebrate the Lunar New Year in Pokemon Go with Bunnelby, Buneary – and, for some reason, Darumaka
