The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah reveals the ‘saddest’ part of Herschel Walker’s fake police badge

Before Trevor Noah officially unsubscribes The daily News Later this year he is the only nightly presenter airing new episodes this week. Which meant he was also the first host to charge Herschel Walker for showing a fake police badge at his only debate with Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA) over the weekend.

After calling Walker “captioning’s worst nightmare,” Noah addressed some of the many controversies that have swirled around the candidate, from “his attack on absentee parents, even though he was one” to “his opposition to abortion, although he supposedly paid for one. All of this brought him to Walker’s attempt at a “prop comedy” in the middle of the debate to address allegations that he lied about being a member of law enforcement.

“I don’t know what’s crazier about this story,” the host said. “The fact that this man lied about being in law enforcement, or the fact that he pulled out a fake stamp during a debate!” Additionally, in an interview Monday morning, Walker defended himself by denying the National Sheriff’s Association denied that the “honor” badge was purely symbolic.

“I almost wonder how many people Herschel Walker arrested?” asked Noah. He also wondered if Walker uses a “World’s Best Dad” mug to prove he’s not an absentee dad.

The “saddest part” of the story, he continued, is that “there are people who are going to believe that Herschel Walker was in law enforcement for pulling that mark.” During his time in America, the South African comedian explained that he learned that “when they see it, people believe it”.

“But it’s honorary!” Noah added, comparing the badge to Taylor Swift’s honorary doctorate from NYU. “But you don’t see her in the operating room like, ‘Well, she killed another one!’”

If there’s one “upside” to this controversy, he concluded, it’s that Georgia voters don’t actually have to vote Walker for the US Senate. “You can just give him a certificate that says ‘Honorary Senator,’” joked Noah. “He won’t know the difference!”
